I’m a huge fan of Churros, particularly the ones at the State Fair or Amusement parks are my favorite. There is something about those little strips of dough that come straight out the fryer, then tossed in ridiculous amounts of delicious cinnamon sugar. It’s partly one of the reasons I enjoy going to the fair or amusements park. And have you had the Churros at COSTCO?? Don’t even get me started on those bad boys! I bought one for Jeremy a few weeks ago… secretly I was hoping that he wouldn’t like it so I would have no choice but to eat it. That’s exactly what happened…he said ” umm no thanks mom, you eat it because it’s not tasty like a pretzel”. Like what? Whose child is this ? Lol
Since its the middle of winter and there is no telling when I’m going to get to an amusement park anytime soon let alone Costco.
I made my own. And let me just tell you…I ate quite a few…like maybe half the batch because they were so good. This recipe is so easy so why not make your own at home?
I started out by preheating the a pot of vegetable oil to 375. While the oil was heating up, I used a medium pot and put in water, butter ,the 2 tablespoons of oil, and sugar and let it come to a boil. Then added the flour and mixed vigorously, like serious arm strength here people. Turn the heat off, let the dough sit for about 5 minutes. Add in eggs one at a time, making sure to mix all the way through. Dough will be slightly sticky.
Grab a piping bag or a Ziploc bag fitted with a star tip and fill with dough. Have a plate ready with paper towel to drain excess oil, and have another plate ready with the cinnamon sugar mixture on it. Pipe strips of dough into the grease making sure not to get to close to the hot grease. Cook for about 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side or until golden brown. Remove from grease, plate on paper towel to drain and immediately coat with cinnamon sugar.
Enjoy while hot… perfect with Caramel or Chocolate Sauce…or both!

Ingredients
Churros
- 1 cup Water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons Sugar
- 2 tablespoons Oil
- 4 tablespoons Butter
- 1 cup Flour
- 2 Eggs
- 2 quarts Vegetable Oil For frying
Cinnamon Sugar Mix
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
Instructions
- 1. Heat 2 quarts of vegetable oil in a large pan to 375 degrees.2. In a medium size pot bring the water, sugar, 2 tablespoons of oil, and butter to a boil. Once it boils, add in flour and mix vigorously. Remove from heat and let cool for about 5 minutes. Add in the eggs one at a time making sure to thoroughly mix after each addition. 3. Fill a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with the dough. A star tip inserted into the piping bag is recommended but not necessary however your churros will not have the ridged sides like traditional churros. 4. Pipe the dough into the grease, creating about 4 inch strips. Be sure not to overcrowd the pot. Once the churros have cooked for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, drain off excess grease and coat with cinnamon sugar.
